ÅAC Microtec and Ball Aerospace to collaborate in small satellite market

ÅAC Microtec AB ÅAC and Ball Aerospace have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together to address new market opportunities in the small satellite market. This collaboration aims to leverage the companies' respective capabilities and unique offerings to address the demand for lower cost and capable solutions for the small satellite markets in the U.S and globally.

- I am very excited to explore opportunities in the small satellite market with Ball Aerospace, a leader in the U.S. satellite market with impressive space capabilities, flight heritage and long-standing customer relations across multiple markets, said AAC Microtec North America Inc's CEO Brent Abbott. A collaboration with Ball Aerospace will help establish an experienced team with complementary offerings in the U.S. and globally.

- Many customers are increasingly looking to augment existing and planned space systems with smaller satellites at a lower cost, said Debra Facktor, vice president and general manager, Strategic Operations, Ball Aerospace. Though as customers look to go small, they also do not want to lose capability -- leveraging the mutual capabilities of Ball Aerospace and AAC will help address these customer needs."

AAC Clyde and Ball Aerospace have complementary small satellite capabilities. AAC Clyde offers satellites in the 1 to 50 kg range and with its scalable Ball Configurable Platform (BCP) satellite bus, Ball Aerospace offers satellites in a wide-range of size and weight. Both companies also offer unique spacecraft components and Ball is recognized for its world-class payload and mission capabilities.

The intent of the MOU is to conduct open-ended discussions on various topics with a view to explore market opportunities.
